Nine time Log Rolling World Champion J.R. Salzman, who captured four titles in 2014, made his 2015 debut in Madison, WI Saturday with a convincing win at the 2015 Midwest Championships. Salzman opened the tournament with a win over Torrin Hallett, before beating 6th ranked Garrick Birdsong in the finals. The 36-year old Salzman, ranked number one in the world, did not lose a fall the entire day. Birdsong, who won the La Crosse Open last week, now has a one first and a second place finish to start the year. Hallett, who rolled well in the back bracket, battled back to finish in third.

On the women’s side, Hudson native Ellie Davenport continued her early season success with her second straight victory to begin the year in Madison. Davenport, who did not finish better than seventh in three tournaments as a rookie last year, has taken the women’s division by storm with two consecutive wins. The Hudson, WI native knocked off three of the top ten rollers in the world as well as former World Champion Taylor Biser on her way to the victory. Davenport defeated number ten - Sam Hadley, number six - Abby Hoeschler, before knocking off the world’s fourth ranked roller Emily Christopherson in the finals. Christopherson was the runner up, followed by Abby Hoeschler in third and Gretchen Green in fourth.

The 2015 Midwest Boom Run winners were Spencer Wilkinson for the men, and Abby Hoeschler for the women.

The next major professional event on the Log Rolling schedule will be the Three Rivers Roleo in Onalaska, WI on July 11.
